Fatimah (radhiallaho anha) the forth and the youngest daughter of the Prophet (sallallho alaihi wasallam) and he " head of the ladies in Paradise." was born in the Ist year of the mission when he was 41. It is said that the name Fatimah (lit: safe' from fire) was revealed by Allah. She was married to ALi (radhiallaho anho) in 2 A.H. and she began to live with him seven and half months later. She was about fifteen and Ali about 21 at the time of their union. Of all the daughter she was the most beloved of the Prophet (sallallho alaihi wasallam). Whenever he went out on a journey she was the last one to part with and when he returned home she was the first one to meet. When Ali (radhiallaho anho) intended to marry Abu Jahal's daughter she was very much grieved and expressed her grief to the Prophet (sallallho alaihi wasallam) said to Ali:" Fatimah is a part of my body. Who grieves her grieves me." Ali gave up the idea of the second marriage during her life time. After her death he married her niece Amamah (radhiallaho anha) as we have already seen in the Previous pages. It was about six month after the death of the Prophet (sallallaho alahi wasallam) when Fatimah fell ill. One day she said to her maid:" I like to bath. Arrange some water for me." She took bath and changed her clothes. She then desired her bad to be placed in the middle of the room. She laid herself down on the bedding with her face towards Qiblah and her her right hand under her right check and said: " I am now going to die." Next moment she was no more. The prophet's family continued and shall remain so through her children. She had three sons and three daughters. Hasan (radhiallahao anho) and Hussain (radhiallaho anho) were born in the second and the third year after the marriage respectively. Muhassan (radhiallaho anho) the third son was born 4 A.H. but died in childhood.
Ruqayyah, her first daughter, died in infancy and has, therefore,
not been mentioned much in history. Her second daughter Ummu Kulsum
was first married to Umar (radhiallaho anho) begetting one son Zaid
and one daughter Ruqayyah. On U'mar's death Ummu Kulsum was
marriad to Aun-bin-Jafar but had no issue for him. After his death
his brother Muhammad-bin-Jafar married her . A daughter was born
them died in childhood. Even Muhammad died in her life time and she
was again married to the third brother Abdullah-bin-Jafar from whom
she had no issue. She died as Abdullah's wife. Her son Zaid also
died the same day and both were carried for burial in the same
procession. Abdullah, Aun and Muhammad have already been mentioned
as sons of Jafar (radhiallaho anho) and nephews of Ali (radhiallaho
anho) Fatimah's Tasbih
Ali (radhiallaho
anho) once said to in of his pupils:
"
fatimah (radhiallaho anha) used to grind the grain herself
which caused corns on her hands. She carried water for the
house in a leather bag which caused scars on her breast. She
cleaned the house herself which made her clothes
dirty. Once some war-captives were brought to Medina.
I said to her, ' Go to the Prophet and request him for
an assistant to help you in your home work.' She went to him
but found many people round him. As she was very modest, she
could not be bold enough to request the Prophet ( sallallaho
alaihi wasallam) in the presence of the other people. Next
day the Prophet come to our house and said, 'Fatimah ! What
made you come to me yesterday?' She felt shy and
kept quiet. I said, 'O , Prophet of Allah ! Fatimah has
developed corn scars on her hands and breast on account of
grinding and carrying water. She is constantly busy in
cleaning the house and in other domestic jobs, causing her
clothes to remain dirty. I informed
her about the captives and advised her to go to you
and request for a servant.' The Prophet (sallallaho
alaihi wasallam) said, ' Fatimah ! Fear Allah. Acquire
Taqwa and keep doing your service to Allah and attending to
your domestic jobs. When you go to bad recite In this Hadith the prescribed Zikar is before sleep. In other
Hadiths the Prophet (sallallaho alaihi wasallam0 is reported to have
advised Fatimah to recite after every salat (prayer)
