Sahabah Migation to Abyssina |
|
The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) was himself facing all sorts of
tortures and persecution with patience. But when the some in human
treatment was given to the respected Sahabah
(The Arabic word 'Sahabah' means the
Companions of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). Its singular is Sahabi)
and his other dear and near
ones, the Holy Prophet, observing that they were tolerating it with great
patience and were not prepared them to migrate to Abyssinia. So in
the fifth year of prophet hood being crowned with during the month of
Rajab.
(Seventh
month of Islamic Calendar)
Twelve men and women migrated to Abyssinia including Hazrat Othman and his
pious wife Ruqayyah.
Negus, the
king of Abyssinia, welcome these emigrants. All of them began to
live there safe and sound. when the Quraish know about it they
sent Amr bin Aas and Abdullah bin Rabiyah to Negus to inform him hat these
refugees were trouble-makers and as such they should not be
allowed to stay there. They requested him hand over those
refugees to them.
Nogus was thoughtful
person. He replied to them that he would not be so unless he investigated
about the religion and ideas of the refugees. when Nogus enquired from
them about their religion and the correct problems to it, Jafar bin Talib
stepped forward and said:
" O King ! Formerly, We were all ignorant,
used to worship the idols and eat the flesh of dead animals, and
indulged in vulgar things, severed relationship and exhibited bad conduct.
The powerful amongst us used to trample over the weak. Under such
circumstances Almighty Allah has sent to us messenger, by His grace, who
belongs to our family. We are well aware of his antecedents, his
truthfulness, trustworthiness and his piety. He invited us to believe in
one God and not to associate anyone else with him, discard idol worship
and speak the truth. He also taught us to be kind and helpful towards the
relatives, good to our neighbours. He prohibited us from the unlawful,
bloodshed, telling lies and usurping the wealth of the orphan. He enjoined
upon us to say the regular prayer, pay the poor-due and perform Hajj. We
heard all these things and embraced Islam.
Negus was much impressed by this argument of Jafar. He returned both the
messengers of Quraish and himself embraced Islam.
The Muhajreen (refugees) lived there for about three months, and having a
peaceful stay there they returned to Mecca. By they time Hadrat Umar,
Farooq Azam, had embraced Islam. Earlier, the census of Muslims was not
more than forty men and eleven women. But with coming of Farooq-i- Azam in
the fold if Islam, the Muslims achieved a sort of great honour. The
people, who had faith in the truth of Islam through its candid reasons.
but could not disclose it because of the fear of persecution by Quraish.
now openly embraced Islam and thus Islam continued spreading and
flourishing in Arabia.
When the Quraish observed that respect for the Holy Prophet (peace be upon
him) and Prophet's Companions (May Allah be pleased with him) has on
the increase day by day and that the king of Abyssinia had also
honoured the Muslims, they apprehended their own end.
All the Quraish, therefore,
decided that it may be demanded from Banu Abdul Muttalib and Banu Hashim
that they should hand over their nephew Muhammad (peace be upon him) to
them otherwise they (the Quraish) would severe their relations with them.
But Banu Muttalib did not yield to their demand. Therefore, a treaty was
written to the efffect that all sorts of relations be severed with Banu
Hashim adn Banu Muttalib, and in future there would be no
relationship, marriage, or dealings of any sort with them. And this treaty
was hung in Biatullah.
(Home of God)
The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and all his companions and relatives
were imprisoned in the valley of mountain. At that time all the family
members of Banu Hashim and Banu Muttalib, with the exception of Abu Lahab,
whether Muslims of infidel, indiscriminately accompanied Abu Talib and
were besieged in the valley. All paths from all directions
leading to the cave were blocked. When their ration exhausted,
they got extremely restless and due to the intensity of hunger
they had to eat even the leaves of trees.
Noticing this sort of condition, the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him)
asked the companions to migrate to Abyssinia again. This time a big
caravan, consisting of eighty three men and twelve women, migrated.
The Muslims belonging to Yeman also accompanied them
including Hazrat Abu Musa Ash'ari and his community members.
The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), his family and companions remained
in this internment for about three years bearing all these misfortunes and
persecution. Thereafter some men of the opponents showed their willingness
to cancel the treaty and lift the siege. And the Holy Prophet (peace be
upon him) was also told through revelation that the treaty was eaten up by
the white-ants and had left not a single letter in it except the
name of Allah. Prophet's informed the people about it. And when the treaty
was examined, it was exactly according to the Prophet's information. In
short the siege was lifted.
Embracing
Islam by Tufail Bin Amr Dusi (May Allah be pleased
with him)
Meanwhile Hazrat Tufail bin Amr Dusi, a thorough gentlemen and chief of
his trible, received audience of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and,
in view of the well-known reality of Islam and the excellent conduct of
the Prophet, the willingly embraced Islam. He requested the Messenger of
Allah: " I have a big say in my tribe. I shall invite them also to
Islam, but you pray to Almighty Allah that I may be blessed with an open
sign, through which I may convince them about my message." The
Prophet (peace be upon him) prayed for him and Almighty Allah brightened
his forehead with a light which was glowing in the dark like a
dazzle-lamp. When Tufail bin Amr met his tribe it occurred to his mind
lest his people might mistake this light as a sign of misfortune or a
disease, and say that he was inflicted with this( imaginative) disease
because of embracing Islam. He therefore beseeched Almighty Allah that the
light in his forehead be transferred to his whip. The prayer was acceded
to and that light was attached to his whip like a suspended bright lamp.
Approaching his tribe men he
started the propagation of Islam and some persons embraced Islam
as a result of his effort. Since they were not as many as he
desired, he requested the Holy Prophet ( peace be upon him) to
pray for his success. The Prophet (peace be upon him) prayed for
him and then asked him to go back and invite the people to Islam
again in a polite way.
Tufail returned to his people and again invited them toward Islam. By the
grace of Allah he succeeded and after the battle Khandaq (ditch) he
brought with him about seventy to eighty Muslim families with him at the
time of the battle of Khaibar and all of them participated in Jahad.
Demise
of Abu-Talib
During this course the Prophet's uncle, Abu talib died. this sad
event happened in the middle of the month Shawwal during the tenth pear of
prophethood. Three days later Hadrat Khadijah also died, and, therefore,
theHoly Prophet (peace be upon him) called it the year of grief.
Migration to Taif
After the death of Abu talib the Quraish availed this opportunity and left
no stone unturned in persecuting the prophet. When he felt disappointed by
the callousness of the people of Mecca in embracing Islam, Prophet's left
for Taif with Zaid him Harithal in the last week of Shawwal of the 10th
year of Prophethood. There prophet's invited the citizens of Taif toward
Islam and remained busy in propagation of Islam and divine guidance
continuously for full one month, but not a single person accepted the
honour of embracing Islam. On the contrary they incited the vagabonds of
the city to harass and torture the Prophet. These stonehearted
and unfortunate people chased the Holy Prophet (peace be upon
him) so much that, if his grace of being the mercy of the worlds
had not served as a check, one word of a curse from his lips
would nave annihilated the from the face of the earth due to
their mal activities.
These wretched people pelted him
with stones, which badly injured Prophet's feet. Zaid bin Harithah shielded him by himself confronting the
stones from every side he was being hurled on the Prophet, so much
that his own head was injured. After one month's stay in Taif the Mercy of
the world (peace be upon him) had to return home with his ankles smeared
with blood, but even then not a word of curse (against the miscreants) was
uttered by him.
