Uncles and
Aunts of the Prophet
Abdul Muttalib had ten sons, viz. Harith, Zubair, Hajal, Daraar, Muqawwim, Abu Lahab,
Abbas, Hamzah, Abu Talib, and Abdullah, the last being the father of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). All the other nine of them were his uncles. Abbas is the
youngest among his brothers. The Prophet's paternal aunts are six, viz. Amimah, Umme Hakeem, Barrah, Atikah, Safiyah, and Lirvi
Bodyguards of the Prophet
(1) Sa'd bin Muaz, who guarded him in the battle of Baer (2) Zakwan bin Abde Qais (3) Muhammad bin Salmah
Ansari, who were his body guards in the battle of Uhud, (4) Zubair, who guarded him in the battle of Khandaq (ditch) (5) Abbad bin Bashir (6) Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (7)
Abu Ayub and (8) Bilal who served as his guards in the valley Qura. And when
the following verse was revealed, which means that "Allah shall
himself protect you from the people (with evil designs)." the guard
was lifted.
Reconstruction of Ka'bah and
unanimous recognition of the Prophet as the trustworthy
When the Holy Prophet (peace be upon
him) was thirty five the Quraish decided to rebuild the
Holy Ka'bah and every individual regarded his participation in the reconstruction of Ka'bah a source of great honour for himself. The Quraish Tribes had based their
good luck on their maximum participation in its reconstruction. To avoid any dispute, the construction work was divided among the tribes. According to this division
of work, when the reconstruction work reached the level of Hajr-e-Aswad (the blessed black stone), bitter differences arose on the lifting and refixing of the Hare-e-Aswad
at its proper place. Each tribe and each person had the cherished desire of getting this honour, so much so that on this very point, there started a spate of
challenges among them to decide the dispute by fighting. But some placid and far-sighted persons of the nation decided to find a way out for reconciliation through
mutual consultation. For this purpose, they entered the Mosque and after consultation they decided that! " The man, who would first enter the Mosque next morning
through this gate, would be the judge of your dispute, and everyone would abide by his judgment considering it a divine decision."
Providentially, the Holy Prophet (peace be
upon him) was the first person to enter the Mosque through that
gate. On seeing him all of them said with one voice, " He is Ameen (trustworthy). We shall agree to his judgment with
pleasure. " He come forward and given such a wise judgement that all of them were pleased. According to this jugement he spread a sheet and placed the
Hajr-e-Asead on it with his own hand. Then he directed that a person selected by each tribe should hold corner of the sheet. When they did so and raised the sheet to
the end of the foundation, he himself picked up the Hajr-e-Aswad and fixed it at its appointed place with his own hands.
After quoting this event, Inbe Hish-sham wrires that before the announcement of
prophethood, all the Quraish unanimously called him ' Ammen'.
Preaching of Islam to the World
In the
beginning, when revelation started, the Holy Prophet (peace
be upon him) was not deputed to openly disseminate Islam,
but the injunctions were confined to his own self. Later,
after its suspension for a few days, when the revelation was
restarted, he was the reign of ignorance and perversion all
over the word, especially the Arabs' false pride, vanity and
their blind following of their ancestors did allow them to
accept the truth. Therefore, initially, the divine
expediency demanded that open propagation of Islam might not
be commanded, so that the people might not be scornful tight
in the beginning. Thus the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him)
started his mission by inviting toward Islam only those
person whom he knew he visualized, through his
farsightedness, the signs of betterment righteousness.
Prophet's pious wife, Hadrat Khadijah, prophet's friend Hadrat Abu Bakr Siddiq, Prophet's paternal cousin, Hadrat Ali (May Allah be pleased with him) and his adopted son Zaid bin Harithah were the foremost among those who embraced Islam.
Hadrat Abu Bakr was Prophet's old friend, prior to the declaration of prophethood, and was fully aware of his truthfulness, honesty and excellence in conduct.
As soon as the Prophet informed him that he was the Messenger of Allah, Abu Bakr immediately attested it and , after reciting the Kalimah
(the code of Islam) embraced Islam.
Abu Bakr Siddiq was a confirmed elderly person in prophet's community and all people him in each
affair. After entering the fold of Islam, he also started inviting toward Islam those people in when he visualized the signs of betterment and righteousness. As a
result of it Hadrat Uthman, Abdur Rahman bin Auf, Sa'd bin ABi Waqqas, Zubair bin Al-Awam, and Talha bin Ubaidullah, all accepted his invitation. He took them to the
Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and all of them embraced Islam. After the, Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah, Ubaidah bin-il-Harith bin Abdul Muttlib, Saeed bin Zaid Advi,
Othman bin Mazoomi, Khalid bin Saeed bin-il-Aas, Othman bin Maz'oon and both of his brothers Qadamah and Obaidullah as well as Arqam bin Arqam (May Allah be pleased
with him) embraced Islam. All of them belonged to the Quraish tribe, while Sohaib Roomi, Ammar bin Yasar, Abu Zar Ghiffari and Abdullah bin Mas'ood, who
also embraced Islam at that time, were not Quraish. Since invintaion toward
Islam was conveyed secretly in those days, the Islamic prayers and
other rituals were also performed secretly, so much so that the son
used to hide himself from his own father during his prayers and the
father from his own infidel son.
When the number of Muslims exceeded thirty, the Holy Prophet (peace be upon
him) appointed a big house for them, where they used to gather and the Prophet used to educate them in religious affairs. This procedure of the invitation toward
Islam continued for three years. Meanwhile a fair number of persons belonging to Quraish
tribe embraced Islam and then other people also started to embraced
Islam. This news spread in Mecca and it was the talk of the town.
Now the time was ripe for open propagation of Islam.
