The Year 3 A.H
Ghazwah
Ghatfan
In 3
A.H. Da'shoor bin Ali Mahrith Mahrabi advance with a force
comprising four hundred and fifty men to attack Medina. When the Holy
Prophet came out to encounter the Force with his Companions, all the
invaders fled and took shelter in the mountain. The Holy Prophet (peace be
upon him) felt relieved and came back. At that time the clothed of the
Prophet got wet due to the incidental rainfall. The holy Prophet took off
his clothes and after spreading them over the nearby bushes lay down under
their shadow. Da'shoor happened to see him while standing on the mountain.
When he noticed that the Prophet was lying and feeling himself at ease, he
hastened towards him and, approaching near him with a drawn sword, said,
" Tell me, who is going to save you now from my hand?" But he
was unaware of the fact that he was confronting a messenger of Allah. The
prophet, without any hesitation, gracefully replied, "Yes, Almighty
Allah will save me." On hearing these words Da'shoor's body trembled
and his sword fell down from his hand. The Holy Prophet (peace be upon
him) picked up that sword and said, "Will you tell me, who will save
you now?" Da'shoor had no proper reply except confessing that no one
could save him. The Holy Prophet took pity on his helplessness and excused
him.
Da'shoor left the place not only embracing Islam
himself but also become a great preacher of Islam in his own
tribe.
Marriage with Hadrat Hafsah and Zainab
The Holy Prophet (peace be upon
him) married Hadrat Jafsah in Sha'ban, 3A.H.
and Hadrat Zainab in Ramadan.
Ghazwah
Uhad
Uhad is mountain adjacent to Medina, where Jihad was carried on against
the aggressive Quraish. The grave of Hadrat Haroon (peace be upon him) is
also there. It is unanimously agreed that the Jihad was waged here in
Shawwal, 3 A.H., and as regards the actual date, there are different
versions; i.e., 7,8,9,10.
After on year of their crushing defeat in Badr, the
polytheists of Mecca, having recouped from the previous wounds and enraged
with the fire of revenge, made up their mind to attack Medina this time
with utmost preparations. And then fully equipped Force, consisting of
three thousand men, advanced towards Medina. This Force had seven hundred
armours, three thousand camels and two hundred horses. Fourteen women had
also accompanied this Force with the intention to boost up their men
during the battle and to curse them if they tried to feel from the
battlefield.
Hadrat Abbas the uncle of the Holy
Prophet who had embraced Islam by that time, was still in Mecca. He
Immediately sent a detailed letter to the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him)
through a fast messenger informing him about all these preparations made
by the infidels. On receipt of this information, the Holy Prophet at once
dispatched two men to ascertain the enemy's position and condition. These
men came back with the news that the army of the Quraish had reached the
suburbs of Medina. As it was apprehended that the city would be attacked,
check-posts were made on all sides and vigilant men sent there. Next
morning, the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), after consultation with the
Sahabah, came out of Medina city with a Force of one thousand Sahabah.
Abdullah bin Ubayy had also accompanied them with his three hundred
co-thinker hypocrites, but all of them detached themselves form the main
Force and returned while still on their way. And now the Muslim army's
number of men was seven hundred only.
Arraying of the Army and Enthusiasm for Jihad Displayed by Sahabah's children
When the Islamic Army was
inspected outside Medina, the youngsters, who too young in age
for Jihad, were sent back. But they were so much fond of Jihad
that Rafi' bin Khadeej back, he stood erect on his toes in order to
appear tall. Appreciating his spirit for Jihad, he was accepted. Samurah
ibne Jundab was also of his age. When he saw that Rafi' was accepted, he
said, " I can defeat Rafi' in wrestling . If he can be accepted for
Jihad, I deserve more than he." So there was a combat between two and
Samurah defeated Rafi'. Therefore he was also selected for Jihad.
What will they say about this
spirit for sacrifice, who do not feel ashamed in concocting
false stories about the spread of Islam by the force of arms?
In short, the Holy Prophet (peace be upon
him), after reaching the Front, arrayed his army and the mountain Uhad was
at their back. Therefore, there was no danger of enemy's attack from
behind. Prophet ordered fifty men to stand at the top of a hill and
instructed them to guard the situation from there and not to leave their
position without permission whether the Muslims are defeated or they gain
victory.
The battle started and after a fairly long
pitched battle, when both the armies withdrew, the results were in favour
of the Muslims. The Quraish scattered out of embarrassment and the
Muslims. mistaking it as their victor, started collecting the booty. At
this sight, the men who were appointed at the rear of the hill-top to
watch enemy's movement from behind, also left their place and came to the
same place where booty was being collected. Their chief, Abdullah bin Jash,
insistingly prohibited them from leaving their post, but they left it
under the impression that their stay there was no more necessary. Only a
few Sahabah were still there but of no effect. When Khalid bin Waleed (not
yet a Muslim) saw this situation, took the benefit of the opportunity (as
he was fighting on the side of the Quraish) and made a sudden attack from
behind. Abdullah bin Jahsh and his Soldiers bravely fought against him but
ultimately all of them fell martyred. Now the blocked in their ways was
removed and Khalid fell on the Muslims alongwith his platoon. And both the
armies collided against each other in such a way that even some Muslims
were killed by their own Muslim brethren, though inadvertentlhy.
Mus'ab bin Umair also fell martyred in the battle. Since he resembled the
Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), the rumour spread that the Holy
Prophet (peace be upon him) had fallen martyred. According to same
versions some devil or a olytheist cried loudly "Muhammad had been
killed".
As soon as this rummour spread,
disappointment prevailed in the Muslim army. Even some great warriors
among them became unsteady, even were eagerly searching for the center of
their faith ( the Holy Prophet). first of all Hadrat Ka'b bin Malik
saw the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and he shouted with joy:
" Congratulations ! The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) is
quit safe here." The Sahabah immediately rushed towards him but
simultaneously, the infidels also left their own positions and rushed
towards the same direction. The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) was
directly attacked several times by the enemies, but he remained safe. On
this occasion once the infidels surrounded him, and he. " Who is
going to sacrifice himself for my sake.?" Ziyad ibne Sakn atonce
advanced with other four Sahabah and all of them fell martyred while
fighting very bravely. When Ziyad, after being badly wounded, had fallen,
the prophet (then in a safer position) asked that his body be brought
nearer to him. The Sahabah complied with and Ziyad, who was still alive,
put his head on the feet of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and
in the same position heaved his last breath.
Holy Prophet's Face is Wounded
Abdullah bin Qamayyah, a wall-known brave man of the Quraish,
penetrating through the ranks, went ahead of all and struck his sword on
the face of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), as a result of which two
spikes of his helmet thrusted in his face and one thooth fell martyred.
Hdarat Siddiq-i-Akbar went forward to pull the spokes out of the wounds,
but Abu Ubadiah earnestly requested him to allow him to do that service.
So Abu Ubaidah stepped forward and pulled the spikes with Prophet's teeth
instead of his hand. In first attempt he got on spike out but at the same
time his own on tooth also fell down because of strain. At this sight
Hadrat Siddiq again went forward to do the rest of the job, but Abu
Ubaidah reappealed him to let him do it. And he brought out the second
spike again with his teeth, but he also one more tooth. Therefore the Holy
Prophet (peace be upon him) fell into pit which the infidels had dug to
let the Muslims fall in it.
Sahabah's spirit of Sacrifice
When Sahabah saw the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) in this condition
they gave him a cover with their own bodies. The enemies' arrows were
being shooted toward the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) like a
torrential rain, but the Sahabah become a shield for the Holy Prophet
(peace be upon him) against them. Hadrat Abu Dujanah was directly hovering
on the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) like a shield so much so that each
and every arrow hit against his back. While protecting the Holy Prophet
(peace be upon him) from arrows and strokes of swords, Hdrat Talha's one
hand was cut off. It was observed after the battle was over that Hadrat
Talha's body had received more then seventy wounds.
Abu Talha was protecting the Prophet with
his shield. When the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) tried to raise his
head to see towards they army. Abu Talha requested him not to do so.
" O messenger of Allah". he said, " Don't raise your head.
May be enemy's arrows on my own chest.
A Companion of the Prophet said, " O
Messenger of Allah ! Which shall by my abode of I am killed in
Jihad?" the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, " In
the paradise." He was holding some dates in his hand and was
eating them at that time. He threw the dates and straight away
entered the battle-field for Jihad and fell martyred while
fighting. The wretched Quraish were ruthlessly throwing their
arrows and wielding their swords against the Muslims, but the
Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) , The Mercy for the Universe,
was uttering the following words "
Allahuma-maghfir li Qaumi fa innahum la ya'lamoon."
( O Allah ! Forgive my people, as they are
unaware of my Position).
His face was
bleeding, but the merciful Prophet, was cleaning it with a cloth
and saying: " If a single drop of this blood had fallen of
earth, the an all embracing torment would have smitten all the
people. Twenty-two or twenty- three infidels and seventy Muslims
were killed in Ghazwah Uhad.
The Year 4
A.H.
In 4
A.H., the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) dispatched a group of seventy Sahabah towards Najd, during the month of Safar, for the propagation of
Islam. This group included a number of great learned and pious persons.
But when they reached there, the infidels' leaders, namely Aamir, Ra'al
Zakwas and Asiyyah encountered them and a battle started. Incidentally,
all the Sahabah fell martyred while bravely fighting against the barbarous
infidels.
This Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), on receipt of this very sad report,
was deeply shocked, so much so that for a few days he regularly cursed
them in his morning prayers.
During the month of Shawwal of the same year, Hadrat Hasan (May
Allah be pleased with him) was born. Hadrat Umme Salmah was married to the
Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) in the same year.
