Children are the bounties of and blessings from Almighty Allah. Hence their birth should be greeted and the Lard and Sustainer should be thanked for His grace and favour. If anyone feels sad and dejected at the birth of a child, he goes against the Will of Allah. There is very common experience and observation these days that the new-born child is like the most unwelcome and unwanted guest whose arrival should have been prevented. And this attitude is manifested on various pretexts like financial difficulties, ill-health, etc. Such persons seek refuge in abortion which is nothing short of killing of the child in the womb. This act is a cruel, heinous, barbarous, gruesome and shameful as the murder of the child after the birth. Allah declares this savage and merciless act as foolish and losable.
The Holy Qur'an an affirm: Those people who entertain such foolish notions in their minds suffer heavy losses--- mentally, spiritually and morally, and this can be well seen form their inhuman behaviour towards. those who are their own flesh and blood, i.e., they go to the extent of killing their own children. Then they are not the enemies of their own children, but foes of their own selves since they deny for themselves merely out of their own fancies such things which Allah has made lawful for them.
Almighty Allah further
observes: The Arabs were addicted to female infanticide. In a society perpetually at war a son was a source of strength whereas a daughter was source of weakness. Even now infanticide is not unknown in other countries for economic reasons. This crime against children's lives is here characterized as one of the greatest of sins. Once a Companion (Allah be pleased with him) submitted to the Messenger of Allah ( Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) which is the greatest sin?" The Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) observed: "Polytheism." The Companion (Allah be pleased with him) again submitted: "And what next.?" The Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) observed: "Disobedience to parents."
The Companion (Allah be
pleased with him) submitted for the third time : The Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) observed: " To kill your children fearing that they will share your sustenance." (Abu Dawud) After birth, bathe the infant and say A'adan in its right and Iqamat in its left ear. One the birth of Hadrat Hasan and Husain (Allah be pleased with them) The Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had said A'adan and Iqamat in their ears. The new-born child should be given a fine name. The Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) observed: " Among all your names. Abdullah and Abdul Rehman are the most favorite of Allah." The Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) observed: "Prescribe those names which are like those of the Prophet (peace be upon him)." (Bukhari) Aqiqa ceremony of the new-born should be performed on the seventh day of its birth and name it on that day. Get the hear of the infant shaved off and give away in charity gold or silver equal in weight to these hairs. Sacrifice two lambs or her-goat fro the boy and one for the girl. The Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) observed: "Prescribe a name for the child on the seventh day after birth and perform Aqiqa ceremony after getting they baby's head shaved off." (Tirmaudhi) the male child should be circumcised on the seventh day after birth. However, if this obligation is delayed by one reason or another, it should be performed before the male child attains an age of seven. It must not be neglected because it is part of Islamic Faith.
When the child develops the
capacity of speech .let him recite: Our children should be treated with utmost love and affection. Let them be seated in our laps, be fondled and caressed and treated in good faith and humour. Let them not be treated harshly and rudely and their self-confidence must not be shattered into pieces. If has mind is adversely and negatively affected his mental faculties are disturbed and the whole personality damaged. Once Aqra bin Babis ( Allah be please with him) visited the Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was then engaged in caressing Hadrat Hasan ( Allah be pleased with him). Being surprised at this act, Aqra Submitted: " O Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ! Do you also caress children, I have ten children but I have never fondled even one of them." Thereupon the Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) raised his eyes and remarked with a look at Aqra: " If Allah has taken mercy and kindness out of your heart, what can I do?" (Abu Dawud) Female child must not receive harsh and discriminatory treatment. Both the male and female children should be loved on equal footing. The Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has observed: " He who is blessed with the birth of a girl and does not bury her alive in the manner of the pagan days and does not look down upon her; neither shows preference to the boy over the girl nor considers the boy in any way superior to the girl, such a person will surely go to Paradise." (Abu Dawud) |
